Roles and Responsibilities
The primary role of an Industrial Architect is to design and plan industrial projects, considering environmental, social, and economic factors to ensure sustainable development.
- Conduct site selection and land preparation activities, ensuring optimal integration with local ecosystems and communities.
- Design plant layouts that maximize operational efficiency and safety while minimizing environmental impact.
- Select appropriate technology, machinery, and equipment that align with project goals for industrial automation, efficiency, and productivity.
- Integrate MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems into industrial designs to meet project specifications and sustainability standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, environmental scientists, and project managers, to ensure project goals are met.
- Implement design and planning methodologies that optimize energy efficiency, waste management, and overall output of industrial projects from the onset.
- Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulations to ensure designs are innovative and compliant.
Knowledge and Technical Skill Requirements
Mandatory
- Proficiency in industrial architecture and planning tools, CAD software, namely AutoCAD, and other relevant design applications.
- In-depth knowledge of site selection, plant layout design, and the integration of technology and machinery in industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of sustainable design principles, energy efficiency optimization, and waste management strategies.
- Working knowledge of integrating construction materials and techniques, environmental resources, and social and cultural considerations, that are local to the site, into the design of the project.
Preferred
- Familiarity with Operations Research (OR) and Industrial Engineering principles to guide optimisation from the design phase.
- Familiarity with MEP and HVAC systems design and integration within industrial settings.
Experience and Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, with a specialization or significant coursework in industrial or environmental architecture preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial architecture, with a proven track record of designing and planning successful industrial projects.
- Registration as a licensed architect or relevant professional certification is preferred.
