Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

The primary role of an Assistant Human Resources Manager is to support the human resources manager in planning, implementing, and managing recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, HR policies and procedures, performance management, training and development, compensation and benefits, HR administration, compliance and legal matters, and employee engagement. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborate with hiring managers to develop job descriptions, advertise open positions, screen resumes, conduct interviews, and facilitate the onboarding process for new employees in accordance with Indian labour laws and regulations
  2. Foster positive employee relations by addressing employee concerns, resolving conflicts, and promoting a supportive and inclusive work environment
  3. Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and legal regulations. Assist in developing and updating HR policies and employee handbook specific to Indian employment laws
  4. Assist in implementing performance management processes, including goal setting, performance appraisals, and performance improvement plans
  5. Collaborate with department heads to identify training needs, coordinate training programs, and facilitate professional development initiatives
  6. Support the HR Manager in administering compensation and benefits programs, conducting salary reviews, ensuring compliance with Indian statutory requirements, and ensuring competitive market positioning
  7. Manage HR databases, maintain employee records, prepare HR reports, and ensure accurate record-keeping in accordance with Indian labour laws and data protection regulations
  8. Stay updated on employment laws, regulations, and industry trends to ensure compliance and provide guidance to the HR Manager and employees
  9. Assist in developing and implementing employee engagement initiatives, including events, surveys, and recognition programs that resonate with the Indian workforce

The Assistant Human Resources Manager will also be responsible for actively promoting the company with the purpose attracting talent. This includes digital and physical employer branding and promotion, participation in trade shows and networking events, engagement with educational institutions, and maintaining relationships with freelancers and individual contractors.

Knowledge Requirements

Mandatory

  1. Knowledge of human resources principles, practices, and Indian employment laws
  2. Methodology, discretion and integrity in handling confidential information
  3. Proficiency in Human Resource Information System (HRIS) software
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications
  5. Proficiency in productivity and organisation tools such as Google Calendar

Preferred

  1. Previous experience in a human resources role, preferably in a similar industry in India
  2. Familiarity with engineering concepts and terminology
  3. Experience with talent acquisition strategies, including sourcing, screening, and interviewing candidates in India
  4. Knowledge of performance management systems and practices in an Indian context
  5. Familiarity with compensation and benefits administration specific to Indian labour laws
  6. Experience in developing and implementing employee engagement initiatives that cater to the Indian workforce

Experience and Qualification Requirements

  1. Degree or certification in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  2. 5 years of progressive experience in human resources, with a focus on HR generalist responsibilities in an Indian context
  3. Professional certifications such as the HR Certification Institute's HRBP (Human Resource Business Professional) or SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional) are desirable but not mandatory
